A clash took place at a checkpoint in Marib in the east of Yemen which resulted in the death of two and the injury of five people suspected to be members of al-Qaeda.

Meanwhile, local source reported the detention by security forces of Mohammed Abdullah Ma’wadah, a relative of the Yemeni-American preacher Anwar al-Awlaki.

Some media and official resources have warned amid current unrest that al-Qaeda and other armed militant groups will pose a grave threat to the security of the country should the regime fall, as demanded by the protestors.
