Child refugee playing his way

The United Nations Refugee Agency, UNHCR, is sponsoring a radio programme aimed at raising awareness on refugee issues and promoting stronger relations and better understanding between refugees and host communities in Yemen. ‘Humanity Pulse’ is a ten-episode series designed to address social issues and airs on Mondays at 9:00 pm and rebroadcast on Tuesdays at 4:30 pm on FM Shabab (FM 103.2). The programme includes dramas that follow a Somali family’s displacement from Somalia to Yemen, interviews with key stakeholders from the Government, UNHCR and NGOs in the frontline of refugee work, true life stories and music from the refugees themselves, Vox-Pop (asking questions to the general public and refugees on refugee and host community issues as well as a religious Sheikh’s opinion on refugee issues).

“This is the first time that radio in Yemen has broadcast a programme that focuses on refugees issues in Yemeni society,” said Mr. Naveed Hussain, Representative of UNHCR in Yemen, adding, I hope that as many people as possible will listen to the program, enjoy it and ultimately benefit from a greater understanding of the issues affecting refugees as well as the contribution they bring.” The programme is collaboration between FM Shabab, the Yemen Youth General Union and International Relief and Development (IRD), an implementing partner of UNHCR.
