Vice President Abdu-Rabbo M. Hadi refused to present his candidacy papers to for the presidential election scheduled on February 21st. Mansour is the consensus candidate as outlined in the Gulf Initiative and its procedures. An official of the GPC said that the vice president would not submit his papers until the barricades and military forces are removed from city streets.
Vice President Hadi believes such a removal is important towards ending division, removing political tension, and issuing the immunity law as stated by the Gulf Initiative.
This week, parliament post-poned voting for the immunity decree for the second time. The decision was made as a result of the absence of the Minister of Legal Affairs and the Minister of Justice. The former refused to attend stating that such laws were not issued by his ministry.
