The Human Rights Watch Organization asked Hadi to investigate the violations of human rights that took place during the past year – particularly those committed against peaceful protestors.

“We are concerned about the violence taking place in certain places in Yemen,” said Lara Tayler, HRW’s envoy to Yemen.

Tayler cautioned that Yemen’s future could be off to an uneven start unless Hadi starts his term by immediately breaking with the abuse of the past.

“It is important for the new government to work towards building a country that follows rules and laws and provides justice for those unlawfully killed in Yemen’s demonstrations,” Tayler said.

Hadi, she advised, must begin implementing serious reforms, including the right of peaceful demonstrations.
