Yemeni forces have arrested a leader of Al-Qaeda in the province of Hadramout. The Defense Ministry stated that soldiers from a military checkpoint arrested Omar Ashoor and his son Abdullah in the Ghail Ba-Wazeer directorate. According to the ministry’s website, the soldiers clashed with a number of gunmen as they arrested Ashoor inside one of the directorate’s farms.
Security sources reported that Ashoor was working as a manager of customs on the border with Saudi Arabia. Citizens also reported armed clashes between security forces and armed men before the arrest of the Al-Qaeda leader. “Two soldiers were killed and four targets were arrested during the operation,” sources noted.
