Canadian Nexen Petroleum Yemen Block 51 east Alhajr resumed its oil operations last week in Hadhramout. CNPY suspend its production and oil operation activates last December as a result of terrorist attacks that could target the company’s assets and employees.

More than hundreds of Yemeni employees, engineers and expats were sent home for their safety and some were sent to do rotational jobs at the company’s head office in Sana’a. In December, the company issued a press release saying that the company would continue to monitor the situation in Yemen and would restart operations when the security situation becomes stable.

According to that announcement, the Ministry of Oil and Minerals expressed its surprise at Nexen’s announcement and said the security situation has improved. CNPY block 51 produces about 2,500 barrels per day in partnership with the Yemeni government.
