The Emirates Red Crescent, ERC, has donated six power generators to the governorate of Abyan, as part of its assistance to provide electricity in liberated regions of Yemen.
A ship carrying the generators docked at the port of Aden on Sunday.
An ERC press release said these generators, which will be followed by a number of other units in the coming days, will generate an additional 8 MW of power, which will help to ease the suffering of the population from repeated power outages caused by the war being waged by forces loyal to deposed president Ali Abdullah Saleh, along with Al Houthi and Al Qaeda militants.
Ahmed Ali Hussein, Director-General of Electricity in Abyan, said the governorate needs 60 MW of electricity, adding that the UAE’s assistance would ease pressure on the power distribution network.
”The UAE immediately answered our appeal for an additional supply of electricity to ease the suffering of the population during the summer season,” he added.
He also thanked the UAE for its efforts to improve public services in the province.
