US Unlikely to Lift All Economic Sanctions on Iran – Kerry

Written by NY Staff

US Secretary of State John Kerry on Monday said that Washington is unlikely to lift all economic sanctions on Iran.
The reason is that Tehran is involved in sponsoring terrorism, and is not committed to UN resolutions on arms embargos, in addition to the country’s human rights file, Kerry said in a press statement after he was presented with the Chatham House Prize 2016 in London.
He noted that the economic sanctions linked to Iran’s nuclear file are being gradually removed in line with the agreement concluded between Tehran and the international powers, 5+1, last year.
US will go on unilaterally imposing sanctions on Iran for reasons that are not related to the nuclear issue, Kerry said, referring to Iran’s role in Yemen’s crisis and Tehran’s support to Hezbollah and the Syrian regime.
The US chief diplomat advocated the conclusion of the nuclear deal with Iran, regardless of not settling other issues like Yemen and Syria, saying that it was impossible to negotiate all these thorny files all at once.
Kerry and Iranian counterpart, Jawad Mohammad Zarif were named winners of the Chatham House Prize 2016. (end) kd.msa
