Sana’a – An armed group suspected of being al-Qaeda members killed six soldiers in the northern Yemen province of al-Baidha on Saturday, the official September 26 news website reported.

The group of more than 20 travelling in two pick-up trucks attacked the Lamasan military post in Radaa city and fired on the soldiers stationed there before escaping, city security chief Amer al-Shaibary said.

The gunmen also threw hand-grenades, he told the website put out by the Ministry of Defence.

In a separate incident on Saturday, at least 15 anti-government protesters were injured in the southern city of Taiz when masked men and rooftop snipers fired on demonstrators with live ammunition, witnesses told the German Press Agency dpa.

Yemenis in the southern cities continued their civil disobedience to pressure President Ali Abdullah Saleh to resign.
