Mr Nicholas Hopton has been appointed Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Yemen.
He will succeed Mr Jonathan Paul Wilks who will be transferring to another Diplomatic Service appointment. Mr Hopton will take up his appointment during January 2012.
Mr Hopton is a career diplomat who joined the FCO in 1989. He has served overseas in Paris, Rome, Morocco and Mauritania.
On his appointment as Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Yemen, Mr Hopton said:
“I look forward very much to serving in Yemen and to getting to know its people, culture and heritage. I am particularly pleased to be going at this time when the country is in a period of political transition. The challenges are immense, but the rewards of achieving a lasting peace will be even greater. I and my team will do our utmost to support this process.”
