Houthis have soundly rejected a visit to Abyan by United States Ambassador to Yemen Gerald Feierstein. Houthi leader Abdul-Malik Al-Houthi stated that a visit by Feierstein represented an echo of colonialism.

In a statement released by the Houthi press office, Abdul-Malik Al-Houthi said, “We affirm that the ambassador’s attitudes and actions are against diplomatic customs and we hereby request that the Yemeni government take on its responsibility to stand against this attitude, which has come to translate into permanent involvement by the United States, Yemen’s true ruler, who moves freely through Yemeni lands.”

Al-Houthi said the Americans have been supervising Yemen’s political and military situation for a long time now, under various pretexts and with a variety of excuses. He said the ambassador’s visit, amid a strong media presence, was designed simply to force the Yemeni people to accept American colonization and decisions.

“The Americans are trying to turn the country into a mess, a country of conflict and a land of war. We confirm that they are the ones who support the chaos, and who generate excuses to overtake the country’s affairs,” said Al-Houthi.

The Houthi leader called upon Yemeni people to reject such pretexts, adding that they would only lead to further American involvement than is already taking place.

“The National Unity Government turns a blind eye toward such involvement by the American government,” said Al-Houthi.
