Sultan Al-Atwani, chairman of the Joint Meeting Parties’ (JMP) Higher Council, has stated that his party doesn’t recognize former president Ali Abdullah Saleh as the head of the General People’s Congress (GPC) party. Al-Atwani also stated if Saleh wishes to continue as GPC party president, he must abandon the immunity he received as part of the Gulf Cooperation Council power transfer deal..
Regarding the upcoming National Dialogue Conference, Al-Atwani said that whoever pre-conditions their participation in the dialogue will have nothing to share with those present. He denied the possibility of disputes arising between JMP members over their agenda at the National Dialogue.
Al-Atwani also rejected statements by Abu-Bakr Al-Attas to the effect that the JMP has been working to have the so-called ‘southern issue’ removed from the National Dialogue’s agenda.
“Their accusations are built on false bases, and they should know that the JMP was the first side to support the southern issue,” he stated.
