With sponsorship from the Turkish Embassy in Sana’a, a Turkish medical team held a press conference at Sheba Hotel as part of ‘Yemeni and Turkish Health Week’.
The medical delegation, which consists of 33 Turkish doctors, recently performed a number of surgeries on Yemeni patients at Al-Thawra, Al-Jomhori and Al-Sabeen Hospitals.
Turkish Ambassador Fazli Corman said the Turkish medical team’s efforts would enhance relations between the two countries and stressed his nation’s readiness to provide health services to Yemen.
Corman added that the Turkish medical team’s role was to transfer Turkish expertise in the medical field to Yemeni doctors.
“Turkey will provide support to Yemen in various fields so as to achieve the economic interests of the two countries, especially with regard to health investment,” he said.
Undersecretary of the Population and Public Health Ministry Dr. Omar Megally praised the strength of relations between Yemen and Turkey in the medical field, and point towards Yemen’s need to develop and expand and further develop the relationship.
Kamuran Ozden, the head of the Turkish medical team, said that Turkey is seeking to raise the number of annual medical grants to Yemen from 25 to 100.
“The medical team started its work directly and performed many large and complex surgeries for a number of Yemeni patients at the targeted hospitals,” he said.
