Security sources and eyewitnesses stated that three people, including one policeman, were killed when citizens protested at the Shumaila police station in Sana’a.

The three individuals died after hundreds of people and traders from Shumaila protested to demand the arrest of the person who murdered a trader on Friday night. Riot forces arrived at the police station and forcibly dispersed the protesters using live ammunition and tear gas.

Those protesting accused the police at the station of aiding the murderer; the protesters claimed the suspect had been released many times even after he had committed a number of crimes in the past year.

They also accused policemen of taking bribes from the murder suspect, money which the protesters claimed had taken by force from taxi drivers in the area.
