Seven militants affiliated with Al-Qaeda were killed on Sunday in four strikes in Al-Jaouf province in the north of Yemen. According to sources, the drones targeted the militants’ car next to the border with Saudi Arabia. “Three Yemenis and four Saudis are suspected of being affiliated with Al-Qaeda,” added the sources.
Eye witnesses reported that three air strikes followed the first strike but did not report any injuries.
The U.S. frequently launches drone strikes against targets of Al-Qaeda militants. Moreover, Al-Qaeda militants made use of the weaknesses of the central government and the protests against the former president in 2011. They enlarged their influence and control over wide areas in south and east but were defeated by the army in 2012.
