Amidst ongoing assassinations of military and intelligence officers, Al-Qaeda militants regularly steal government funds across the country. According to sources in the Ministry of the Interior, gunmen have recently assassinated General Saeed Salem Abidan, political security officer in Mukalla city, Hadramout province. Sources added that Al-Qaeda militants carry out weekly assassination operations in this province. The assassination of General Abidan comes one day after the killing of two other officers while they were trying to prevent militants from looting the salaries of soldiers of the 111th Brigade. The Al-Qaeda organization funded their operations in past years, in part, through armed robbery of Yemeni banks and post offices. According to reports, Al-Qaeda has looted around $ 1.5 billion within two years.
