Informed sources state that President Hadi held a closed meeting with leaders of JMPs of Ibb province in Sana’a. Sources told National Yemen that Hadi accepted the resignation of Ibb Governor Ahmed Abdullah Al-Hajri and is to name a new governor soon. “Al-Hajri was a JMP appointee, and the parties have not nominated their next candidate for the position. Unofficial sources stated that Hadi gave the JMPs a week to name their next candidate before appointing a new governor from the Islah party. According to sources, the president’s meeting was well received by youth who used to complain about the president’s failure to address their issues. “Hadi promised to draw the new governor from the youth segment, especially if the JMPs failed to name a candidate,” noted sources. Naming a governor from the Islah party would enrage members of both the GPC and the JMPs, which encouraged Hadi to choose from youth.
Hadi’s meeting with leaders of the JMPs followed a period of turmoil in Ibb’s political arena, which grew particularly heated after the appointment of Sheikh Jubran Basha as undersecretary for the province. Al-Hajri admitted nominating Basha, a GPC party member, to the post of undersecretary governor. Sources further stated that Al-Hajri submitted the governor’s house to Special Forces.
Sources close to the GPC party stated that the party is waiting until the naming of the new governor to state their opinions.
