An agreement was signed today in Aden to expand and improve the Mukalla International Airport. The project will cost $6,127,258 and will be covered by World Bank financing in conjunction with the bin Malik Institution for Trading and Contracting in Hadramout.
The project consists of a variety of components. Civil works will include the addition of a new building for use as a departure and arrival lounge with all requisite services. Architectural and electrical works, sanitation extenders, and electromechanical works will cover an area of 2500 square meters, including paving of a parking area and creation of spaces for businesses and communication installations.
The project will be carried out over the next sixteen months, and it aims to increase traffic to the airport while avoiding crowding and overreliance on taxis.
The airport plan has been specially designed to reduce pollution within the airport, reduce runway incidents, promote safety, reduce congestion in public areas, expedite commercial transactions for passengers as well as aircraft movements according to the open space policy, as well as generally enhance the security of goods transit and the delivery of air mail.
The agreement was signed by Khalid Saeed al-Deini, governor of Hadramout, as part of a larger project to develop the port cities of Aden, Hodeidah and Mukalla. It was also signed by Mohammed Abdullah Abdul Razzaq of the Bin Malik Institution, Deputy Director of the Foundation Abdulrahman Mohammed bin Malik of the Indian Office of InterContinental for Consulting, and Birchan Kabila, manager of the company.
At the signing ceremony, al-Deini expressed his thanks for the efforts made to implement this important project, explaining that the project is a good beginning to the implementation of other vital projects in the province.
The governor also expressed his willingness to facilitate all procedures and overcome all difficulties in order to implement the project.
The Program Director of Port Cities Development Project said that the implementation of this project is a vital service for Hadramout, and that it will promote the abilities of Mukalla Airport while also providing special services.
General Director of Mukalla International Airport Engineering Anis Abdelqader attended teh ceremony as well as the advisor of Development Affairs for Hadramout province, Sagav Mshahor, as well as a number of officials of the Port Cities Development Program.
