The Yemeni American Language Institute, YALI, held an artistic celebration and theatrical show last Tuesday, November 26 2013. The event was held to celebrate the 26th anniversary of National Independence.
Some notable performances during the ceremony included patriotic songs of great old Yemeni singers performed by the singer Ahlam and paintings of popular folk tales from Yemen’s governorates portrayed by the Military Theater for Folk Dance. A youth team of YALI students performed western dancing set to Yemeni rhythms
The most important presentation was a theatrical presentation entitled “Forget Ya Janah.” The play, performed by famous actors as a comedy, discussed issues surrounding Yemeni young men and the suffering of society. The play was written by playwright Mohammed al-Quooa, and directed by Amin Hazaber.
YALI students also participated in the ceremony by delivering speeches in English about the importance of the National Day celebration and the cultural diversity, particularly in the farther flung governorates such as Marib and Socotra Island.
The ceremony was attended by the Executive Director of the Institute Aziz al-Hadi, the crew of faculty and staff, a large number of YALI students, and a number of their guests.
