Yemen LNG celebrated International Women’s Day on March 10th and also announced that Mrs. Safa’a Rawiah, General Manager of the Youth Leadership Development Foundation (YLDF) the lucky winner of the annual Balqis Award. Rawiah was thrilled to be recognized for her remarkable contributions to the development of Yemeni women. “The award added more encouragement and empowerment to me.”
YLDF is a local non-governmental organization, and its programs aim at building youth capacity, especially of young women, to play a role in leadership and development opportunities. The celebration was attended by the company’s female staff, representatives of civil society organizations, as well as media and female government officials. The award was praised by Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, Dr. Jawhra Hamoud Thabet, and Secretary-General of the National Dialogue Conference Dr. Ahmed A. Bin Mubarak.
“I am confident that when a woman receives proper education she can find the appropriate place to prosper and therefore contribute to the development of her own country,” said Dr. Thabet. For her part, Dr. Hamoud thanked Yemen LNG management for providing development programs, especially in education, for rural women.
2014 is the fourth year that Yemen LNG has celebrated its female members of staff and recognized their contribution to the largest industrial enterprise in Yemen. Women represent over 30% of the workforce of Yemen LNG employees in Sana’a.
Under the theme, ‘Inspiring Change’, event activities featured success and inspiring stories by some female staff. Staff members cited examples of notable female leaders from Yemen and abroad, and critically discussed cultural norms surrounding women, in addition to motivational ideas. Speakers included Ms. Mariam Al-Qubati, Fatima Al-Baiti and Jamila Al-Jaberi.
