The United Nations Population Fund, along with the British Council, has concluded five days’ workshop of the Springboard Program for Women’s Development. Springboard celebrated new thirty graduates from different fields at the Girls World Communication Center (GWCC).
British Council Yemen launched its first Springboard program in September 2007, with 20 candidates coming from different organizations and backgrounds throughout Yemen. Springboard aims to reach even more women in Yemen to help them realize their potential, and also understand their rights, particularly on reproductive issues.
The program had a deep effect on its participants, with most viewing it as training for the rest of their lives. Participants were trained by Amal al-Kipsi, a human development expert. Al-Kipsi emphasized that communities cannot be developed without the awareness of women’s rights, and her ability to exercise them.
The course ended with certificates being awarded, and by trainees being told that nothing is impossible, and that they can do whatever they want if they have the potential.
