Assassinations have increased significantly in Yemen during the past three years, especially as they target politicians and military leaders. Until now, many assassins are unknown in the more than 250 successful killings. This happens alonside a high number of organized criminal activities, militant attacks, infrastructure sabotage, and so on. Motorcycles were used in 22% of the attacks.
The period of the National Dialogue Conference, from March 18th, 2013, to January 25th, was the period in which Yemen most lost politicians, military leaders, and security officers. Attacks likely increased to place obstacles in front of a stable transition of political power in the country.
