A group of post-graduate students representing the University of Science and Technology, Faculty of Art Department of English in Taiz, has concluded a visit to National Yemen newspaper. The head of the English department Dr. Baleid Taha Shamsan, along with two more female teachers, insisted that National Yemen be the final destination of their four day visit to Sana’a.
The students learned about journalism and translation techniques from Arabic to English, and vice versa. They also enthusiastically debated and discussed with Editor-in-Chief Fakhri Al-Arashi, and learned how to translate, report news, and use catchy headlines with feature stories.
After two hours of interactive discussion, students were encouraged to volunteer for the newspaper from Taiz during their last academic year.
National Yemen is one of four English newspapers in Yemen that covers a variety of political, social, and economic stories in the country. The majority of its staffers were English learners, either from the Faculty of Education department of English, Art Faculty, or Language Faculty.
Throughout their visit, students were taught to think ahead, and were grateful to visit Yemen’s fastest growing English newspaper as it celebrates its fourth anniversary on May 22nd, 2014.
The visit included a quick tour, and Al-Arashi promised a job opportunity for the most talented student.
