The Officials at the Tourism Ministry and the Office of tourism promotion realize the importance of tourism for Yemen. They work hard to hold the tourist events and activities in all governorates in order to improve tourism, considering it as a very important source to develop the country’s income, not less important than Petroleum.
In the same time, all the concerned authorities in tourism realize that the main reason of deteriorating the tourism in our lovely country, which owns many of Tourist attractions, natural treasures as well as ancient civilization, is the lawlessness which make Yemen lovers from many countries stop visiting it. Unfortunately, the political conflicts still kill everything beautiful in our country, laying down its feet in Amran, to destroy many of the cities, and historical sites and monuments as a result of the recent events that occurred in the province. So, what does remain of the archaeological sites in Amran?
About that, the general manager of tourism in Amran, Mohammed Abdullah Al-Muafa said that no doubt Yemen in general is considered a Tourist country from the first class. The tourism in Yemen is a cultural tourism. It belongs to Cultural and historical heritage which is rooted deeply in the history. Therefore, Yemen is considered an open museum where the tourist lives in, the Historical eras through watching the great historic heritage of Yemen.
“Amran has remarkable attitudes in all historical junctures in Yemen. It’s from the most important tourist governorates where there are five walled historical cities which belong to before the history, and characterized by architectural art and the different traditions.” added Al-Muafa.
However, this historical significance didn’t intercede for Amran with stakeholders who destroy everything in order to achieve their desires. “A lot of sites and ancient cities were targeted with rocket-propelled and heavy weapons. The most affected cities were Huth, Athr, Dhofar, Redah, old Amran, historical Thula city, Bani Memon village and fort, Hbabp city as well as Al-Janat city that have been affected significantly. ” explained Al-Muafa.
Before the outbreak of war between the army and the Houthis, people and Officials of tourism were still dreaming in flourishing tourism and they were working to make Amran the best tourist area in the world. “Despite the tourist office in Amran doesn’t have resources, but we have implemented 33 tourist projects since 2002 until 2012 m. the total cost of these projects was one billion and six hundred and six million and seven hundred and fifty-two thousand.” said Al-Muafa.
The Attempts to develop Imran weren’t from inside Imran only, but also there were initiatives and agreements with people from abroad in order to development the field of tourism in Amran.
“The visit of French people who are interested in Adventure Tourism and paragliding repeated to Masaur Directorate many times, they said this Directorate enjoyed by advantages that qualify it to compete globally or locally in the area of paragliding. From here the idea of building a center of Adventure Tourism and paragliding, in cooperation with the same center which is in France, has came. ” added Al-Muafa.
Seriously, Officials in tourism began implementing the project. They have specified the suitable place for establishing the center, while the French people prepared a short Tourist promotional film about the Adventure Tourism and paragliding in Masaur Directorate.
“in 2007 there was a competition in an international exhibition organized by Hong Kong about the most suitable places for Adventure Tourism and paragliding in the world, where Yemen won the first place in that competition. According to the result of the competition, we communicated with the most important activists in Adventure Tourism and paragliding, and their reply was positive. They have offered their helping for building the center in a perfect way.” Explained Al-Muafa.
Unfortunately, all these efforts stopped, not only that, Amran right now is losing all the achievements implemented in the past. “The lack of security and the political conflicts is the only reason behind the deteriorating of tourism in Amran. But I believe that what happen in Amran and in all Yemen would be ended through implementing the national dialogue outputs.” Said Al-Muafa.
