The Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Yemen Issues New Statement

The Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Yemen, has issued a new statement. Benomar continues his consultations with the relevant parties in order to reach a peaceful solution to the current crisis in Yemen.

On Monday, Mr. Benomar met with President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, and held separate meetings with senior officials from the Yemeni Government, the leader of the Islah Party, and representatives of Ansarullah (Houthis). Discussions focused on ways to address the crisis, and the need to achieve consensus over timely solutions based on the outcomes of the National Dialogue Conference.

The Special Adviser also had a telephone conversation with the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Abdul Latif Al Zayani. They exchanged views on the latest developments in Yemen, and discussed cooperation between the United Nations and the GCC in support of the political process.

Mr. Benomar’s meetings also included the Special Envoy of the United Kingdom to Yemen Alan Duncan and Ambassador Jane Marriott, and the United States Ambassador Mathew Tueller.
