In a meeting for health ministers held in the Saudi capital Riyadh, GCC Secretary General Abdul Latif Al Zayani said that he hopes that Yemen will soon regain its security after chaos, violence and terrorism spread through it.
He added that the peaceful political process that started in 2011, according to the GCC initiative, has been purposefully stopped.
According to sources in the UN, the international community will halt foreign aid given to the government of Yemen if the Houthis continue their coup and compose a presidential council of one party. The sources also reported that this would extend to the international bank and the IMF.
The Houthis have already been informed about this because the international community has refused to recognize a coup or provide support to an illegitimate authority. Quoting anonymous political sources, AlBayan newspaper said that the Houthis have decided to carry on the coup and form a presidential council.
Houthi militants announced their full takeover of the country Friday afternoon, they have dissolved parliament and established new presidential council to run Yemeni affairs.
In a televised statement, the Houthi militia said it was also forming a 551-member national council to replace parliament.
