The ambassador of European Union delegation to Yemen,Bettina Muscheidt sent an open letter to the Houthis militants known as ( Ansar Allah ). She expressed her concerns and sadness over the continuation of keeping President Hadi, Prime Minister Bahah and other government ministers under house arrests.
“Depriving people from the freedom of mobility is an unacceptable act that infringes the most basic of human rights” she said.
The EU calls for an immediate end to these house arrests. We are also profoundly concerned about the reported detention of young people who recently took part in peaceful protests in Sana’a.
These peaceful young activists should be immediately freed. The right to freedom of assembly and freedom of expression should be wholeheartedly respected.
The EU’s engagement with Yemen is principally founded on the protection of human rights, transparency and accountability.
It is on these grounds that the EU has always promoted the right of Ansarullah and all other political forces to peacefully participate in the political process. Ansarullah must now live up to their NDC commitments in favour of a democratic and tolerant Yemen and take responsibility for their acts.
She continued to say, the EU delegation will continue supporting the Yemeni people from Brussels until the situation allows for a return to Yemen.
