As the Pakistani parliamentarians debated their country’s role in the Yemeni crisis, the United States has said it is up to Pakistan whether it participates in the ongoing Saudi-led campaign that Riyadh says aims at quelling the Houthis’ insurgency.
“Every country can make their own decisions about whether to join these kinds of efforts. The same goes for the Pakistanis, certainly,” State Department acting spokesperson Marie Harf said responding to a question at the daily briefing.
Harf’s comments came as the Pakistani media reported that Saudi Arabia has sought Pakistani cooperation in the form of troops, warplanes and warships.
The spokesperson, however, would not comment on what would be Washington’s position on the Pakistani involvement. “I don’t have much more analysis on it to do for you.”
