UNDP Yemen welcoming new Country Director

UNDP Yemen has the honor to welcome Mr. Auke Lootsma as the new Country Director. Mr. Lootsma started his assignment on the 3rd of August 2016, taking over from the former Country Director Ms. Mikiko Tanaka.

Mr. Lootsma will oversee the day-to-day management and operations of UNDP’s work in Yemen, which concentrates on supporting the Yemeni people and local communities to strengthen their coping mechanism and self-resilience to stand the current ongoing crisis. UNDP mainstream human rights based approach as well as empowerment of women and youth in its programme and projects.

His career with UNDP began in 1994, in which he was the Country Director in Rwanda; Senior Recovery Advisor in Ukraine; Deputy Country Director (Programme) in Sudan; and Deputy Resident Representative (Programme) in Uganda. Prior to joining UNDP Yemen, Mr. Lootsma was the Deputy Country Director for Programme in South Sudan. Mr. Lootsma holds a Master of Science in Business Administration and Development Economics.
