Albawaba — The Tunisian Foreign Minister confirmed that video footage showing Nourane Houas, the French-Tunisian staffer at the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) who was kidnapped in Yemen on December 1, has been released. The Tunisian government is treating the video as legitimate and is taking steps to secure her release.
The ministry said it contacted Tunisian diplomatic missions in many capitals, particularly Geneva and Paris, as well as the ICRC international headquarters, to make sure the video footage is authenctic and enquire about the hostage’s health condition.
Freeing Nourane Houas is a priority for the Tunisian diplomacy, the ministry indicated. The ministry also confirmed that it has been in constant contact with her family since her abduction on December 1, 2015.
Earlier Monday, Foreign Minister Khemaies Jhinaoui said this is “a sensitive matter” and it is preferable not to discuss it for the sake of her security.
“The ICRC does not wish to speculate on the identity of the kidnappers or comment further on the video. We are doing everything in our power so that Nourane can go home, and it would be inappropriate to discuss the details publicly,” the organization said on August 11.
