Yemeni President Abd Rabbu Mansour Hadi has ordered a commission of inquiry to investigate the explosion at Al-Sawlaban army camp on Saturday, Al-Arabiya has reported. The move came after a Daesh-affiliated bomber carried out a suicide operation at the base in the port city of Aden. At least 48 people were killed and 30 others were wounded.
According to some local reports, those killed were soldiers waiting to be paid. Aden Al-Ghad, however, claimed that the victims were new recruits conscripted to take part in the government offensive against Houthi and Saleh forces in the besieged city of Taiz.
Yemen has been locked in a bitter battle between Houthi fighters allied with forces loyal to ousted President Ali Abdullah Saleh and government forces led by President Hadi, along with local tribes and resistance groups backed by air strikes carried out by a Saudi-led coalition.
Hadi reiterated the importance of strengthening security vigilance and ensuring cohesion between the army, the government, police services and civilians. He stressed the importance of unity during these difficult times.
